Siena Serves is Ready to Kick-Off our Seventh Year of Service

Siena Serves is a monthly service project that utilizes the talents of Siena community members and staff to give back to others in the Rockford Community. Its origins date back to 2017 and service projects have ranged from entertainment to providing volunteer manpower and fund raising for donations.  Since its inception, it has provided meaningful activity for Siena community members and staff that has an impact on the lives of others in the Rockford Region.

2023 Siena Serves highlights include:

January:  We assembled over two hundred packets of “Snowman Soup” (Hot Cocoa/Marshmallows/Candy Cane) for Lifescape’s Meals on Wheels Program.  These treats went out during one of their usual meal deliveries.

February: We gathered to make hand-crafted valentines to spread cheer to children who would be in the children’s hospital during Valentines.

March: In advance we prepared snacks for preschool children then a few of our community members went to St. Elizabeth’s Center to read aloud for the preschool kids at Storytime.

April:  We assembled desk top calendars and provided these as a gift to several home health and hospice care providers.

May:  Our community took part in the PB&J drive to feed school age children during summer break.

June : Busy hands worked hard this month to make and deliver No Sew Fleece Blankets for the Milestone clients.

July: This month was our Seventh Annual Kookies for Kidz Cookie sale to support St. Elizabeth Community Center’s Youth Summer Camp Program. Children from the Center visited Siena to help decorate the cookie boxes with our community members too!

August: Siena community members and staff went to Lifescapes to assist the Meals on Wheels kitchen package a couple hundred meals for the day’s delivery.

September:  A fun and meaningful project took place this month.  In remembrance of 9/11 and in thanks to all those who serve us, we prepared and delivered Survival Kit Goodie Bags.  These were delivered to Rural St. Fire Station, as this group is our typical first responders.

October: We held a scavenger hunt, fundraiser and educational gathering to raise money and awareness for the OSF Healthcare Foundation for Breast Cancer.  In a short hour we raised over $700.00.

November: Our Dining Service baked up several choices of delicious breads.  Our community members packaged and sold the breads to raise over $500.00 for Remedies Renewing Lives.

December: The “Giving Tree”.  We collected hats, scarves and mittens, as well as can goods for area shelters.

At Siena on Brendenwood, we are always on the lookout for opportunities to be of service to others.  Any person or organization wishing to partner on a project with Siena Serves is encouraged to contact our Community Director, Stacy Hirsch at 815-399-6167.
